Stanningley Fire Station

Stanningley Fire Station is located at the junction of Stanningley Road and Swinnow Lane and covers the western part of Leeds which includes the mainly residential areas of Pudsey, Bramley, Armley, Farsley, Farnley and Stanningley. The station, opened in February 2003, replacing the old stations at Bramley and Pudsey. It is a specialist station involved in the movement of large quantities of water both to and away from an incident.

Within its boundary, there is an assortment of commercial, industrial, educational and agricultural risks including the Stanningley rail tunnel and the Owlcotes retail park.

The station commander is in charge of the station and is assisted by the four watches comprising of 28 firefighters who are supported by the station clerk.

The Fire Investigation Team also works out of Stanningley station providing great collaboration between themselves and operational crews.

The fire fighting vehicles staffed by the crews are as follows:

  • One pumping appliance comprising of one heavy rescue pump
  • Two Communities & Local Government prime movers, which carry the high volume pump unit and associated modules.

Firefighters at Stanningley are qualified to deploy the High Volume Pump (HVP) unit and have been active in recent years, with both local and regional deployments to assist with the removal of water at incidents of wide area flooding, as well as supplying large amounts of water for firefighting.

The community room is used by local people to hold meetings to the benefit of people in and around the Stanningley area.

A new youth engagement initiative is currently taking place at Stanningley station. Qualified staff from across the Brigade engage with young people as part of the ‘Get Started’ programs supported by the Princes Trust. The program promotes the benefits of regular physical activity with a disciplined structure can bring to everyday life.
