Health and Safety

  • Provide strategic and day to day advice on health and safety matters.
  • Implement and monitor a systematic and structured health and safety management system.
  • Provide strategic and day-to-day advice on all fitness related matters.

 

Occupational Health Unit

  • Monitor the health and well being of staff and advice on matters relating to the effects of health on work and work on health.
  • Implement and monitor a regular fitness assessment programme for all operational personnel.
  • Produce and develop a mangement framework within which to manage sickness absence. Advise management at strategic and local level on both short and long term sickness absence.

Payroll

Payroll is responsible for the preparation of all payroll documentation including new starters, terminations, promotions, changes to working hours and maternity pay.

Recruitment and Pensions

Recruitment and Pensions are responsible for managing the recruitment process for both Firefighters and Support Staff roles. This encompasses the whole process from initial application right through to appointment and induction. Dealing with enquiries from both managers and employees in relation to the three Pension schemes we operate; the Local Government Pension Scheme; the Firefighters Pension Scheme and the New Firefighters Pension Scheme.

Access offers a suite of functionality to support every stage of an employee’s life cycle:

  • HR Document Management

  • Performance Management

  • Training & Development

  • Time & Attendance.

Access is responsible for updating and maintaining the Human Resources (HR) system in relation to new starters, changes to working hours and terminations to employment. They also ensure that the policies relating to the flex-time scheme and annual leave are adhered to.

  • To play a key role in the organisations capacity to understand and meet the needs of its diverse communities
  • To provide a lead role in advising on diversity and inclusion issues relating to both service delivery and workforce issues
  • To provide leadership in WYFRS equality and diversity strategy and plans providing a compelling business case
  • Develop key alliances and positively engage with external agencies and communities to enhance the reputation of the service and ensure that the community is fully involved in improving the experience of diverse groups who access our service
  • Production and awareness of equality and diversity policies and guidance
  • Analysis and publication of equality data and monitoring information
  • Facilitating training and awareness-raising of equality issues
  • Providing advice on positive action and pre-recruitment activity

The majority of our key Diversity and Inclusion activity is delivered through the Equality Action Plan, and scrutinised by a Corporate Driving Diversity Board made up of staff members from different areas of the organisation.
