At West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, our HR Team within the Employment Services (People) Directorate ensures our people can be their best every day. We contribute to Making West Yorkshire Safer by having the right people, values, skills, and support in place. Our People Strategy focuses on fair, consistent, and ethical practices to attract, recruit, and retain the right candidates.
We support colleagues throughout their employment journey, from onboarding to promotion, leave processes, and exit. We work with leaders to manage people issues and foster positive employee relations. Our HR guidance helps solve problems and improve through data and innovative initiatives.
We provide excellent pensions and benefits services, comply with employment law, and continually develop our HR competencies to ensure our workforce flourishes.
Payroll is responsible for the preparation of all payroll documentation including new starters, terminations, promotions, changes to working hours and maternity pay.
Recruitment and Pensions are responsible for managing the recruitment process for both Firefighters and Support Staff roles. This encompasses the whole process from initial application right through to appointment and induction. Dealing with enquiries from both managers and employees in relation to the three Pension schemes we operate; the Local Government Pension Scheme; the Firefighters Pension Scheme and the New Firefighters Pension Scheme.
