An exciting opportunity has arisen to join one of the UK’s leading fire and rescue services, playing a vital role in making West Yorkshire safer. As Recruitment Manager, you’ll be at the heart of our service, with the unique job satisfaction of knowing that you are directly contributing to the recruitment of our skilled and talented workforce, and the safety and wellbeing of the people of West Yorkshire.

What you’ll do:

Lead and manage the recruitment function across West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, ensuring the delivery of inclusive, efficient and legally compliant recruitment processes that support operational readiness, workforce diversity and community representation.

What you’ll bring:

  • Proven experience of leading on recruitment across a large and complex organisation.

  • Experience of workforce planning and designing and delivering inclusive recruitment campaigns accordingly.

  • A strong understanding of employment law, equality and diversity legislation and public sector practices.

  • Experience of analysing complex data and reporting on metrics in relation to recruitment and selection.

Description

Are you proactive and organised with the ability to support a team that assists with meeting the obligations and duties related to gathering risk information placed upon West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service. Do you thrive in a collaborative team environment and enjoy supporting others and contributing to the smooth and effective delivery of a vital service.

You can help West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service by providing essential administrative support to the Operational Risk Management Team.  Your work will contribute directly to the smooth running of the team and help maintain the high standards expected across the organisation.

Job Purpose: Your role will involve analysing and processing information through databases, spreadsheets, and various software applications. You will handle enquiries from internal and external parties and provide support to managers to maintain high‑quality service delivery.

Key Responsibilities: You will support the implementation of risk management policies and procedures across West Yorkshire in line with the requirements of the FRS Act 2004, Section 7.2.D, contributing to the enhancement of risk information systems and ensuring effective dissemination of risk-related data. You will organise training sessions, briefings and departmental meetings including taking accurate minutes. You will also provide guidance on risk information gathering and recording processes, ensuring consistent and accurate data collection across all levels.

Essential requirements:

  • Experience of database administration.

  • Technical experience and specialist knowledge on the use and function of databases and IT applications.

  • Experience and use of MS Office and other IT applications to proficient level of efficiency.

  • Ability to solve a variety of work-related problems.

  • Experience working to meet deadlines with conflicting demands.

  • Experience adapting and configuring information to meet the needs of the organisation.

  • Clerical experience

Working in Fire Protection offers a unique opportunity to combine operational experience with specialist fire safety expertise. We are seeking applications from existing Watch Managers, substantive Crew Managers currently enrolled in the promotion process, and substantive Crew Managers seeking a temporary promotion opportunity.

Working within Fire Protection offers the chance to:

  • Lead and support fire safety audits across a diverse range of premises.

  • Influence fire safety standards and community outcomes through education, engagement and enforcement activity.

  • Develop expertise in building construction, fire engineering principles and fire safety legislation.

  • Support significant building safety and remediation programmes.

  • Gain nationally recognised Fire Protection qualifications and specialist training.

  • Work alongside experienced Fire Protection Officers, Inspecting Officers and external partners.

  • Contribute to organisational priorities and national fire sector initiatives.

  • Hold and maintain all qualifications required for their current role.

  • Have no current/outstanding development action plans, performance improvement plans or capability issues related to competency.

  • Be free of current formal disciplinary awards throughout the entire process.

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in current role (as per Annual Review).

  • Full and current driving licence.

Successful candidates are expected to stay within Fire Protection for a minimum of 2 years following completion of the apprenticeship scheme, which is expected to last 2 years. You will work the Grey Book flexi duty system; working within Fire Protection is not considered a specialist role in terms of attracting ARA/SSA payments.
