Tributes and Memories

In memory of our colleague Tom Lewis

It is with great sadness that West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service shares the news that our colleague, Tom Lewis, passed away on 18 July 2026.

Tom joined the Service in March 2008 and spent more than 18 years working within Digital Data and Technology (DDaT). During that time, he held a number of roles and made a significant contribution to the Service, supporting colleagues and helping to maintain the technology and systems relied upon every day.

Nick Butterworth, Head of Digital Data and Technology, said:

"Tom was part of the DDaT team for more than 18 years and played an important role in supporting West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service throughout that time.

Much of Tom's work took place behind the scenes, quietly helping people across the organisation and keeping essential systems and services running smoothly. Many will have benefited from his support without ever knowing the full extent of the work he carried out.

Tom was always willing to help others and brought knowledge, dedication and professionalism to everything he did. Outside of work, he enjoyed walking and had a passion for art and painting.

Tom's work may not always have been visible, but it was greatly valued. He will be remembered fondly by those who knew and worked with him, and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time."
