The state-of-the-art facility will provide cover for the communities of Spen Valley, and also host West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service’s technical rescue capabilities.
The fire station has been created on the site of the new Fire Service HQ in Birkenshaw and boasts investment in safety and advancement, with clean areas, access to modern training facilities, and a more economic facility for firefighters to be based out of. It replaces the former Cleckheaton Fire Station, which was vacated last year.
Assistant District Commander for Kirklees Ant Devine says “We’re proud of our fantastic new facility at Spen Valley. It is part of our commitment to keeping our communities as safe as possible by providing firefighters with appropriate, modern spaces to work and train out of. The fact it’s home to our technical rescue team means they need to be able to always access the very latest training, which they can do at our new state of the art training facility just adjacent to the fire station itself.”
The opening ceremony was held with MP for Spen Valley Kim Leadbeater who said “It’s a real honour to open Spen Valley Fire Station. I can’t thank the firefighters here enough for their service, they run towards danger where others run away so it’s a real pleasure to support the opening and see the fantastic new facilities.”
The fire station is a one pump station and will be the workplace for 40 firefighters.
