Kit on. Miles in: Emergency services gear up for Morley 10K this Sunday!

The training is almost over, the running shoes are ready and West Yorkshire’s emergency services are gearing up for this Sunday’s Morley 10K - all for a fantastic cause!

On Sunday, 4th October 2026, firefighters and colleagues from West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS) will join teams from Yorkshire Ambulance Service and the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) to take on 10 kilometres through the historic town of Morley.

But this won’t be your average 10K!

Some participants will tackle the course wearing different levels of operational Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including full fire kit with breathing apparatus (BA) and wildfire kit, highlighting the physical demands faced by emergency service personnel.

The event will raise vital funds for The Fire Fighters Charity, which provides lifelong support to serving and retired firefighters, fire and rescue service personnel, volunteers and their families.

Last year, #TeamWYFRS raised more than £2,500, and this year’s runners are hoping the local community will help them build on that success.

Ready, set, Morley!

Asif Mahroof, Assistant District Commander for Leeds, said:

“Morley is a town with a real sense of community, and events like this show just how special that community spirit is."

“It’s fantastic to see our firefighters, colleagues and emergency service partners coming together to raise money for The Fire Fighters Charity. Last year, we raised more than £2,500, and we’d love to see the people of Morley help us build on that achievement."

“We’re really looking forward to seeing everyone on Sunday. Whether you’re cheering from the sidelines, supporting a friend or family member or simply enjoying the atmosphere, your support will mean a great deal to everyone taking part.”

Morley, let’s get behind them!

Ben Moody, Firefighter at Morley Fire Station, added:

“The training’s gone really well, and we’re all looking forward to Sunday. We’ve put the work in, and now it’s time to get out there and enjoy the challenge!"

“Running around the historic town of Morley is always special. There’s a fantastic atmosphere, and we’re really looking forward to seeing everyone along the route and running alongside our colleagues from the other emergency services."

“Taking on 10 kilometres in fire kit and breathing apparatus is certainly going to test us, but knowing we’re raising money for such an important charity makes every step worthwhile."

“If you’re in Morley on Sunday, come along, give us a wave and make some noise. We’ll definitely appreciate the encouragement!”

More than a race - come and meet your local firefighters!

There’s more than running to enjoy on Sunday!

WYFRS teams will also be carrying out community engagement, giving visitors the chance to meet their local firefighters, see and tour a fire engine and pick up some useful fire, water and road safety advice.

t’s a great opportunity for families and members of the community to meet the people who help keep West Yorkshire safe.

The Morley 10K is a volunteer-led, not-for-profit event that brings runners and supporters together in the heart of the town.

Funds raised will support The Fire Fighters Charity and its specialist physical rehabilitation, mental health and wellbeing services for the fire and rescue community.
