The ceremony celebrated the dedication, professionalism and commitment shown by recipients throughout their careers, recognising years of service to the people and communities of West Yorkshire. The awards were presented by the Lord-Lieutenant, who inspected the parade before personally presenting medals to each recipient. Taking time to speak with every award winner, he heard about their service and the contribution they have made over the years.
Chief Fire Officer John Roberts said "The honours presented recognise the loyal and dedicated service from individuals who are committed to our ambition of making West Yorkshire a safer place to live and work.
West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service could not survive without its wonderful people, and our Long Service Awards (which is one of my favourite events in the year) provide them, and their family and friends, with an opportunity to look back and celebrate their many years of fantastic service."
Set against the stunning backdrop of Halifax's iconic Piece Hall, the ceremony was a proud occasion for recipients, their families, friends and colleagues. Many members of the public also gathered to watch the ceremony, with several commenting on how wonderful it was to witness such a special and celebratory occasion. Their enthusiasm and support added to the atmosphere of the day, making it even more memorable for colleagues being recognised for their service.

They reflect years of commitment, professionalism, dedication and public service to the people of West Yorkshire. Each of you has played an important part in helping keep our communities safe. You’re contribution has made a real difference to the lives of countless individuals, families and businesses across our county. Please take a moment to reflect on what you have achieved. You should be immensely proud of the service you have given, the lives you have touched and the difference you have made throughout your careers.”
Earlier in the day, local families and communities had the opportunity to meet firefighters and learn more about the Service, with crews and appliances from across Calderdale in attendance. The event provided a fantastic opportunity for people to speak with colleagues, explore fire engines and find out more about the work carried out every day to help keep communities safe. The Service Band, Pipe Band and Colour Party helped make the occasion even more memorable, providing a fitting tribute to those being recognised.
A special thank you also goes to the many volunteers who worked behind the scenes in the weeks leading up to the event and on the day itself. Their hard work, dedication and attention to detail helped create such a memorable occasion for recipients, their families and everyone who attended.
