  • Position: Chief Executive/Chief Fire Officer (Operational)

    Description: As the chair of the Corporate Management Board you will be responsible for the manner in which the discharge of the Authority’s functions are co-ordinated and for the organisation of the executive officers. These officers have delegated responsibilities and powers to make executive decisions in relation to the management of their respective functional areas including authorising expenditure within approved budgets in accordance with corporate procedures. The Corporate Management Board’s purpose is to identify key issues that will affect the Authority and the delivery of its services; provide strategic policy advice and direction; and ensure service planning objectives are addressed and delivered within defined programmes of work. It is the Management Board that provides the formal interface between elected members and officers.

    The Authority is seeking a person of exceptional calibre with proven strategic experience. The successful candidate will hold a relevant degree qualification and ideally be a qualified member of an appropriate and recognised professional body. You will have a broad range of experience, including strong managerial and operational examples at tactical and strategic command levels, together with well-developed political skills and a proven track record of working effectively with elected members in a political environment. You will have the drive and ambition to make West Yorkshire a safer place to live, work, and visit.

  • Position: Telephonist Receptionist (Maternity Cover)

    Description: The post holder will be responsible for providing a telephone and reception service at Fire Service Headquarters. The principal duties will include receiving incoming telephone calls, dealing with switchboard queries, maintaining an up to date directory of all the Authority’s extension numbers, greeting visitors, and occasionally undertaking some word processing and clerical duties.

    Good communication skills and previous administrative experience are a pre-requisite. Candidates must be able to work flexibly and on their own initiative.

    Cover required for
    Tuesdays 0830 to 1700 hours with 30 minutes lunch break
    Wednesdays 0830 to 1700 hours with 30 minutes lunch break

This will require an absolute focus on change management and continuous improvement.

    As a member of the Corporate Management Board the successful applicant will support the Chief Fire Officer/Chief Executive in identifying the key issues affecting the Authority and the delivery of its services; providing strategic policy advice and direction; and ensuring service planning objectives are addressed and delivered within defined programmes of work. You will have delegated responsibility and powers to make strategic decisions for your functional area, including authorising expenditure.
