Update at 2.15pm, August 4th

The fire, in a derelict building measuring approximately 20 metres by 30 metres, is now under control and the incident has been scaled back to an attendance of three fire engines and two aerial appliances from West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service. Approximately 30 firefighters and fire officers remain in attendance in total.

Crews from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service who assisted in the early stages of the incident have now left the scene and we thank them for their support.

Road closures remain in place in the locality – if possible please avoid the area to assist the emergency services as they deal with the incident.

Local residents are advised to keep doors and windows closed due to the smoke.

It is likely that there will be a Fire Service presence into the evening.

Crews in attendance are from the following stations: South Kirkby, Normanton and Castleford as well as two aerial appliances from Huddersfield and Wakefield.

Description:

Fire crews from West and South Yorkshire are currently in attendance at a building fire in Langthwaite Lane, South Elmsall.

The incident is currently ongoing and we advise members of the public who reside or work in the locality to keep doors and windows shut due to the plumes of smoke.

The general public is also asked to avoid the area if possible to assist fire crews as they deal with the fire.

Fire engines in attendance from West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service are from the following stations – South Kirkby,  Dewsbury and Normanton as well as two aerial appliances from Wakefield and Huddersfield. Supporting appliances from West Yorkshire are also in attendance.

Crews from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service are from the following stations – Adwick, Askern and Barnsley.
