From the District
The people of Kirklees can be assured that we are making the district a safer place to live and work.
We have set out plans to prioritise our services in the community over the coming year and we would encourage you to take a look at these plans in detail.
Kirklees Risk Reduction Plan 2012-13 and West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service’s Action Plan for 2012-2013
Our priorities are:
- to reduce risk across Kirklees, with a focus on supporting the integrated risk management planning process, in particular across Huddersfield, Batley and Dewsbury fire stations
- continue to work effectively with partners across the district, highlighting the risk to both individuals and property
- achieve more with the same or less resource, specifically targeting projected activity and using a combination of prevention, protection and response.

Awards and recognition for Kirklees District
Community Fire Station Receives District Commanders Recognition.
Mirfield Fire Station Personnel have been awarded a District Commanders Certificate of Appreciation for their continued work within the Mirfield Community.
Mirfield Station for the last 10 years, have built and run a Santa’s Grotto for the local children which is very impressive. In addition, they have a bonfire night pie and pea supper which raises approximately £500; this has been running for 20 years. The other big money raiser for the Station was the railway exhibition, which ceased in Dec 2009, this raised approximately £10,000 over the 10 year period, all of which went to local charities in Mirfield.
In 2008 they pulled a fire engine from J Cottons to the Mirfield boundary with the crew for Dewsbury Fire Station (approximately 3 miles) raising £500 and numerous other fund raising events and car washes.
The station has made many donations to the local community to support both groups and individuals over the years.
Keith Robinson said “It was a great pleasure to recognise the work the personnel at Mirfield have done and will continue to do in relation to embracing the community”.
