Welcome to the Bradford district web page.
The people of Bradford can be assured that we are making the district a safer place to live and work.
We have set out plans to prioritise our services in the community over the coming year and we would encourage you to take a look at these plans in detail.

We believe our successful community safety strategy lies in the links we maintain with our partners and we plan to strengthen and increase these
- to deliver a professional and resilient emergency response service
- to provide a safe, competent and diverse workforce

Bradford District ‘Care Home’ Exercise – 15 March 2012
Crews from across the Bradford District attended a simulated care home fire on the former site of Scalebro Park Hospital, Burley in Wharfedale on Thursday 15th March.
The crews were met by a confirmed fire in a large residential care home with a number of residents still unaccounted for. Live ‘straw bale’ smoke was used during the exercise to enable crews to train in more realistic conditions.
BA crews were committed into the building to locate the casualties and extinguish the fire. Once crews located suitable exhaust points the premise was ventilated using PPV fans and all residents were located and rescued. During the exercise a simulated asbestos exposure was introduced for BA wearers, this added to the realism of the incident.
Crews were assessed on BA search and rescue techniques, Command and Control and structured evacuation procedure at a care home.
The exercise was organised as part of the work underway by Bradford District to underpin the knowledge and understand by crews on care home incidents following the Rosepark incident in Strathclyde.
Hazelbeck Community School, Bingley. 7th February 2012
Bingley Fire station is pioneering a new approach to working with schools where individuals have special educational needs.
Year 5 school talks have become part of the curriculum for the majority of children and fire crews have become accustomed to delivering such talks.
However we now need to address the more vulnerable in our community, those who have significant, moderate and minor learning needs.
At a meeting on the 19th January attended by Harvinder Gill, Station Commander Andy Clayton and Sam Dennison from Hazelbeck discussions took place about the best way to approach this rewarding work.
All agreed that it is vital that we consider the needs of the children and that the input must be aimed at appropriate levels; Harvinder, Andy and the Bingley crews will be mixing with the staff and children over the next few months before any formal education is delivered. During this period Harvinder in particular will be meeting Sam to devise and construct packages which will recognise the needs of the children.
Crews will be attending the school and over the course of a week the whole school will be visiting the fire station at Bingley as we aim to develop trust and understanding before we get down to the serious business of fire safety.
Martin Hoole from the Young Fire-fighters is also looking at supporting the school and working closely with Harvinder and Andy will see if he is able to become formally involved. Using his experience which started at Highfield School in Ossett, Martin will be hoping to offer courses to those at Hazelbeck who are more able to take advantage.
This is a whole new approach to education for West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service and there is a will in all camps to get it right first time; close partnerships and dialogue are key at this stage.
The scheme which has the full backing of Councillor John Cole who is a governor at Hazelbeck School could then be rolled out across the county within all schools where children with learning difficulties are educated.
