About
Stanks station, built in 1973, serves a population of over 42,452 people, covering approximately 14.39 square miles which includes the mainly residential areas of Whinmoor, Swarcliffe, Whitkirk, Colton, Halton, Crossgates, Scarcroft, North Seacroft, Wellington Hill, Manston, Barwick-in-Elmet, Scholes and Thorner. There are 17,973 dwellings in the area.
The station is managed by a station commander (who also manages Garforth) has a team of 24 firefighters and a part time station clerk. The station has a resource of one pumping appliance which is crewed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Stanks personnel are committed to improving the service thy give to the local community and the people of West Yorkshire. Partnerships with other agencies have been forged and meet on a regular basis to assist in identifying vulnerable people and the measures required to reduce the risks to them. Engagement in community activity is very important and attendance at neighbourhood forums, anticrime partnership meetings and local projects (fun/information days) will continue.
