Shipley Fire Station is situated on Saltaire Road. The station was built in 1977 and comprises of offices, training and accommodation facilities and an appliance room that houses one water ladder fire appliance. The station is wholetime (24/7) and the team is made up of a station commander (who also manages Idle), 24 firefighters and a station clerk who provides administrative support.
The station area covers the southern part of Bradford which includes the mainly residential locations of Baildon, Nabwood, Frizinghall, Saltaire and the commercial areas of Shipley. The population is 43,856 and the station area incorporates 18,676 dwellings.
In addition to the fire appliance the station provides facilities for the ambulance service providing a base for both ambulance and paramedic emergency response staff.
The station commander and station personnel liaise with the Neighbourhood Policing Team, various Council Ward Officers and attend local Neighbourhood Forums. This partnership liaison, in addition to the work carried out by our Arson Task Force is aimed at protecting people by reducing the numbers of fires within the Shipley Station area.
