Dewsbury Fire Station, built in 1964, is located on Huddersfield Road on the outskirts of Dewsbury heading towards Huddersfield on the A644. The station has a number of fire engines and specialist vehicles which enable it to deal with a wide range of hazardous materials incidents as well as the more common fires. The team consists of a station commander and 48 firefighters. The station is staffed 24 hours a day and covers Thornhill, Thornhill Lees, Earlsheaton, Saville Town, West Town, Hanging Heaton, Dewsbury Moor and Ravensthorpe which has a population of 53,373 and incorporates 20,301 dwellings.
