    Young Firefighter Graduation 2014

    More than 150 teenagers from schools around West Yorkshire have passed their Young Firefighters course with flying colours.

    The youngsters carried out a number of fire drills in front of their family, teachers and senior fire service officers at formal graduation ceremonies at West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service headquarters this week.

    The event aims to convey the simple message that understanding issues relating to hoarding, or individuals with a tendency to hoard, will make both the community and firefighters safer.

    Safeguard you, your family and your home

    There are a number of simple steps that you can take to help to safeguard you, your family and your home from fire and other emergencies:

    • Don't leave cooking unattended and never cook after drinking alcohol
    • Never smoke in bed and always dispose of cigarettes carefully
    • Never leave electrical items switched on overnight and don't overload sockets
    • Drive within the speed limit, avoid distractions at the wheel, stay patient and always wear a seatbelt
    • Ensure you have smoke detectors fitted in your home and test them every week.
