New district commander for Wakefield

Group Manager Martin Langan has been appointed the new district commander for Wakefield.

Martin has served at most fire stations in the district during his career so far, most notably as watch officer at Wakefield Fire Station and station commander of Pontefract and Featherstone. He has also worked in a number of roles at West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service’s headquarters in Birkenshaw.

“I am very excited to take up this post and I’m looking forward to the opportunity and challenges ahead,” said Martin. “I will continue the excellent work of the previous district commander, Ian Dunkley, in making the people of Wakefield district safe.”

Martin said he is also keen to get out into the community and he is available to speak to members of the public and offer advice and guidance on the service currently provided.

One of the first events Martin will also look forward to is the opening of Pontefract and Normanton fire stations this April. The new state-of-the art fire station at Normanton has been built on land adjacent to the former station, while the brand new Pontefract Fire Station at Bondgate replaces the old Pontefract and Knottingley fire stations.
