The completed steelwork for the new station is now in place as can be seen from the first picture below of the rear elevation. On the left of this picture is the two storey accomodation area; with the three bay engine house in the centre; followed by the area to be used for the Young Firefighters Scheme training on the right.
The second picture shows the view, from the second floor, overlooking the main A64. Works to the highway are projected to start in the near future which will include installation of the familiar ‘Wig Wag’ warning lights alsng with the central reservation been removed to allow access onto the opposite carriageway. Access to the city centre will be assisted by the installation of a vehicle fitted system that allows traffic lights to be turned to green by the approach of a fire engine responding to a 999 call.
