Applications for an extraordinary career are now open!

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS) have now opened their applications for full time firefighters.

Applications are open from March 1 until April 9 and it is expected that thousands of people from West Yorkshire and beyond will be eager to apply for this extraordinary career.

WYFRS’s recruitment campaign which features a number of serving firefighters launched just over a month ago and has been hugely successful so far.

The campaign theme ‘Ordinary to Extraordinary’ captures the essence of who West Yorkshire firefighters are and who the service are looking for – ordinary people who do an extraordinary job. You can view the recruitment video here.

WYFRS has a dedicated recruitment website (www.joinwyfirefighters.com), which contains everything from information on entry requirements and the recruitment process to information about the organisation.

West Yorkshire Chief Fire Officer, John Roberts, said: “This is an exciting opportunity for the men and women of West Yorkshire to join our highly experienced and dedicated team.

“The role of a firefighter has changed considerably over the years, with prevention playing as much of a part as fire and rescue. If you join us, you will learn some incredible skills, work with some wonderful people and overcome obstacles you never thought possible. Ultimately, you will have an extremely rewarding and fulfilling career by serving to protect the people of West Yorkshire. If you think you’re up for the challenge, we want to hear from you!”

Firefighter recruitment is always a competitive process, with an extremely high number of applicants. Only the highest performing individuals at each part of the selection process can progress to the next stage and appointment is purely on merit.

Councillor Judith Hughes, Chair of West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Authority, said: “West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service is a welcoming, supportive and inclusive environment to work and we are looking for people who share these positive values. We serve a diverse community and, as such, we welcome applicants from all backgrounds.”

WYFRS look forward to welcoming in the new generation of firefighters and wish all those who apply the best of luck.
