West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service will be welcoming colleagues from the Netherlands this week to share good practice.
Firefighters and brigade staff from Utrecht, Rotterdam and The Hague will visit West Yorkshire’s headquarters in Birkenshaw before meeting Blue Watch and community fire safety staff at Bradford’s new fire station in Leeds Road.
The 10 visitors, who include firefighters, personnel officers and a chief of response, will be looking at the work West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service has done to recruit black and minority ethnic groups as firefighters. This will be illustrated in a presentation carried out by Maria Tonks, West Yorkshire’s Equality and Diversity Manager.
Ms Tonks said: “We are making good progress in all areas of equality and diversity, including the recruitment of under-represented groups to ensure the organisation reflects the community we serve. We welcome this opportunity to share this good practice with our European colleagues.”
