45 Chairman's Announcements – Councillor David Atkinson
The Chair advised the Committee that this would be the last Committee meeting attended by Councillor David Atkinson who was due to retire with effect from 5 May 2008.
Resolved
That Councillor Atkinson be thanked for his many years’ service and
commitment, both as an operational officer and member of the Fire Authority.
46 Minutes of the Last Meeting
Resolved
That the Minutes of the Committee at a meeting held on 29 February 2008 be signed by the Chair as a correct record.
47 Urgent Items

48 Exclusion of the Public– Section 100A Local Government Act 1972
Resolved
That the public and press be excluded from the meeting during the item of business specified
below as it was likely, in view of the nature of the
business to be transacted or the nature of the proceedings, that if members of the public were present during this time, there would be disclosure
to them of exempt information of the description respectively specified.

49 Disclosures of Interest
No disclosures of interest in any matter under consideration were made.
50 Community Fire Safety – Increase to Establishment
Consideration was given to a report of the Director of Fire Safety and Community Relations which sought approval for the creation of additional posts in the Community Safety department as follows;
• High Risk Team (5 posts)
• Arson Task Force (5 posts)
• Road Safety Liaison Officer ( 1 post)
• Safety Central (6 posts)
Members were advised that these posts had been included as a service development bid as part of the budget process and would be established on a phased basis.
Resolved
That approval be given to the changes to the Community Safety establishment as detailed in the report now submitted.
51 Protection and Redeployment Policy
Resolved
That this item be not considered.
52 Personnel Activity Report
The Director of Human Resources submitted a report which advised of personnel activity between the period March 2007 to February 2008.
Resolved
(i) That West Yorkshire Police be requested to submit their sickness figures for comparative purposes; and
(ii) That the report be noted.
53 Retirement – Efficiency of the Service (Mr C)
(Exempt information under Schedule 12A (1) of the Local Government Act 1972 – information relating to an individual)
Consideration was given to a report of the Director of Operations which sought approval for the retirement of Mr C on the grounds of the efficiency of the service.
Resolved
(i) That approval be given to the retirement of Mr C on the grounds of efficiency of the service for the reasons given in the report now submitted;
and
(ii) That approval be given to the deletion of a Crew Manager post from the
establishment in the Mobilising and Communications Centre.
