That the Minutes of a meeting held on 7 September 2007 be signed by the Chair as a correct record.

10  Fitness at Work Policy – Additional Payment for Retained Duty System Staff (RDS)

This item was considered as exempt information under Schedule 12A (4) of the Local Government

Act 1972 – labour relations, consultations or negotiations)


The Panel considered the merits of both the management and the Fire Brigade’s Union’s case in the light of both legal and equalities advice as requested at the 7 September meeting.


Resolved

(i)  That the Brigade fitness policy and assessment programme for all operational staff be approved for adoption;


(ii)  That no extra payments be made to Retained Duty Staff to undertake physical training sessions at their relevant retained Duty System fire station where equipment is provided; and


(iii)  That, where equipment is not provided in the relevant retained Duty System fire station, travel expenses be payable for a maximum of two sessions each week (based on the distance between home and the nearest station with appropriate equipment); and


(iv)  That (i) – (iii) above be subject to formal ratification by the Executive Committee.
