What: Bhangra group Sahara will be backing West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service’s campaign for people to book a free home fire safety check. They will put on a short performance for fire safety staff and media. This is not open to the public.
When: Monday, October 15 at 5pm.
Where: Bradford Fire Station, Leeds Road, Bradford.

World famous Bhangra group Sahara will be taking time out of their busy schedule to back WYorkshire Fire and Rescue Service’s smoke alarm campaign.
The group’s Herbie and Kully, who have had a string of hit singles including Soniye ni Soniye, will be encouraging Asian householders in particular to book a free home fire safety check.

Research shows that black and minority ethnic households are less likely to own a working smoke detector, with Asian households the least likely to do so.

Shabana Kosar, Bradford Community Fire Safety Officer, said: “We are trying to increase the up-take of home fire safety checks in the Asian community, as one of the most common causes of fires within this community is cooking.

“Home fire safety checks provide the people of our community with education on how to stay safe as well as the fitting of free smoke detectors.”

Home fire safety checks are carried out by firefighters and specially-trained fire safety staff and usually involve the fitting of free smoke detectors.
