West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service and Wakefield Metropolitan District Council have teamed up to improve safety and the environment in the run-up to Bonfire Night.
What should be an enjoyable time of year for everyone can unfortunately bring problems for some people.
Peter Evans, Wakefield Fire Station Manager, said: “Not only do bonfires and fireworks pose a risk when mis-handled, but people who set fire to rubbish and waste bins in the run-up to the big night can put themselves, other people and nearby properties at risk.”
West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service and Wakefield District Council are urging people to attend an organised bonfire and firework display, such as the one at Thornes Park on Saturday, November 3.
And to help drive down the number of deliberate rubbish fires in the Wakefield district, the council and the fire and rescue service are urging the public to report full waste bins, any furniture or large rubbish dumped in the street, on public land and on private property by calling 0845 8 506 506. Please remember to recycle as much of your waste as possible to help keep waste bins clear.
If you have bulky household waste, such as settees and chairs, that you would like removing please call Wakefield Council’s Contact Centre on the above number.
