Almost 500 homes are safer this week thanks to West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

During last week’s National Fire Safety Week, 487 people across West Yorkshire signed up for a free home fire safety check, which involves the fitting of free smoke detectors.

Community fire safety staff toured the county, spending one day in the Kirkgate Centre, Bradford, St John’s Centre, Leeds, Dewsbury town centre, Junction 32 Outlet Shopping Village, Castleford and Woolshops in Halifax, encouraging people to fit smoke alarms, but most importantly to check them regularly.

Remember, you are twice as likely to die in a fire at home if you do not have a smoke alarm. To book your free home fire safety check call 0800 587 4536 or visit www.westyorksfire.gov.uk
