Fire chiefs have retained the Government’s prestigious Charter Mark award for excellence in customer service – with five commendations for best practice.
West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Authority has consistently reached Charter Mark standards since 1998 but has to undergo rigorous annual re-inspections.
This year’s assessment, carried out over two days in April, highlighted clear improvements in customer care. Among the examples of best practice highlighted were:
Pontefract councillor Phil Booth, who chairs the Authority’s Audit Committee, explained that the aim of Charter Mark was to examine services from the customer’s point of view and use the process to drive forward standards.
“The standards encourage public services to be the very best, to focus on their customers, to constantly improve and to give value for money,” he said.
“It is a great testimony to our staff that their efforts are recognised to be delivering better results year on year.”
