Rubbish fire which has spread to the sandwich panel walls of classroom in science block, this has resulted in heavy smoke logging of the major part of the school building. Due to this the school has been evacuated and pupils sent home, crews used 1 hose reel and Positive Pressure Ventilation fans to clear building of smoke. No pupils injured.

In total approx 469 calls were received. Of these calls approximately 11 have been fires involving property, 5 vehicle fires, 101 proved to be small fires (trees, bonfires under control etc) and approx 30 were false alarms.
Out of all incidents attended by the Fire Service during this period, approx 52 were in the Leeds District, 83 were in the Bradford District, 15 in Calderdale, 27 in Kirklees and 18 in the Wakefield District.
There were three seperate incidents in the Halifax, Bradford and Keighley areas where fire crews came under attack whilst dealing with incidents.

1st Alarm make pumps 3. Fire involving high voltage electrical cable on a bridge which is under renovation. Scaffolding tower/bridge was also involved in fire. Crews were protecting the gas supply. The electrical fire affected the electrical & gas supply to the Copley area. The Calderdale Emergency Planner attended the incident to aid the evacuation of 11 people from barges situated near the bridge. A Hazardous Materials officer also attended due substances being given off from the burning cables. Roads surrounding the area were closed at 04:15 for approximately 4 hours these are Wakefield Road A6026 junction with Copley Lane, A629 Huddersfield Road, B6112 Stainland Road & B6113 Rochdale Road. Crews were mobilised to an Animal Rescue from water. This was a dog which was rescued by Fire fighters after falling into a concrete Dye Tank after chasing a cat. The tank was full of water and was sunk into the ground. The tank measured 10M x 5M.

Pet Parrot stuck in tree. Fire service officer attended to investigate and requested an aerial appliance and attendance of RSPCA. The parrot had been let out by its owner and had flown into the tree and was 30ft up but would not come down. Parrot was rescued by fire service crews using the aerial appliance with the assistance of the RSPCA inspector and parrot then reunited with its owner.

Fire and Rescue Service pulling together in national effort to help flood victims.
The Fire and Rescue Service (FRS) is pulling out all the stops to help flood victims as the weather takes it's toll around the country. Specialist High Volume Pumps (HVPs), boats, flood support teams and hose layers are being deployed from all around the country to help those struggling as the current torrential rain continues to wreak havoc.
At one time Gloucestershire had up to 4 HVPs in operation along with a flood support team and a boat from Mid West Wales FRS which were all working to prevent a boat in Tewksbury Marina from colliding with King Johns bridge.
Oxfordshire have also had two HVPs in use as well as boats from Essex FRS and GMC FRS which have also been used to help stricken communities. In Hereford & Worcester 20 people required rescue from moving water at Sedgeberrow in Worcestershire and this was achieved using boats from Merseyside, Mid West Wales, Cheshire and GMC along with colleagues from the RNLI who also used 4 boats. Nottinghamhire FRS also sent a specialist Technical Rescue Team to assist .
High Volume Pumps have also been dispatched to assist in Northamptonshire, East Sussex and Surrey.
The specialist teams and equipment have been mobilised to assist the flood-hit areas from the National Coordinating Centre which is based at West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service. Assistant Chief Officer Paul Cummins said "The National Coordination Centre has once again proved it's worth in ensuring that we can quickly despatch specialist equipment and officers from all around the country.Thanks to the work that has gone into pre-planning and the superb efforts of our mobilisng team, some of whom have come in offf-duty to help, , we ve been able keep on top of a very difficult situation. The NCC will keep working until we are sure that our colleagues around the country have what they need to help communities get back on their feet."

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service would like to make the public aware that resources are currently at full stretch due to widespread flooding across the county.
We stress that the fire and rescue service will respond to any life-threatening situations. However, we would urge the public to resist contacting the service where life is not at risk.
The brigade’s Mobilising and Control Centre is currently receiving over 200 calls per hour from the public.
Unfortunately the fire and rescue service is not in a position currently to pump water out of houses. Our advice is to turn electricity off and use sandbags.

4th alarm and 3 aerial appliances. Multi occupancy mill building, 2 storey l shaped 30m x 100m, 1st and 2nd floors involved in fire, 6 large jets, 2 ground monitors and 2 breathing apparatus were used.

Sotralentz Ravell Drum works, Gelderd road, Wortley, Leeds.
4th alarm, large container 10m x 20m involved, fire spread to single storey building 25m x 35m. Container contained oxidising agents and flammable materials. Incident sectorised into 3 sectors. 4 large jets, 3 ground monitors and 12 breathing apparatus were used.
Appliances and special appliances attended from all over the brigade area.
Over 80 calls were received to this incident.

Walnut Street, Halifax.
Person burnt - male casualty suffered 40% burns to his face after throwing fire into an oil drum which then flashed back. He was taken to Calderdale Royal hospital by ambulance and was later taken to Pinderfields hospital.

Flat fire persons reported. 4 ba's, 1 hr and ppv were used. 1 female casualty was rescued from property by Fire Service personnel, given first aid and transported to Leeds General Infirmary by amb suffering from smoke inhalation.

Major flooding incident of area 100m x 100m depth from 3 inches to 3 foot, involving business premise and surrounding terraced properties. 4 foot of water inside the building on ground floor and 12 employees on 1st floor unable to get out of property due to water.
Appliances from Castleford and Pontefract attended. Also the HVP from Stanningley was mobilised along with 2 support teams.

House fire, small fire in bedroom out on arrival. 1 male casualty suffered smoke inhalation, was given oxygen therapy by Fire Service personnel and taken to hospital by ambulance.

Flat fire, out on arrival. Female occupier, suffered a small burn to her right thumb. She was also given oxygen therapy to supplement the piped oxygen supply in her flat that she was using as it had been involved in the fire - she did not suffer smoke inhalation.

Between 9am and 10am the brigade’s Mobilising and Control Centre has received around 100 calls from the public due to damage caused to their property from flooding. Unfortunately the fire and rescue service is not in a position currently to pump water out of houses. Our advice is to turn electricity off and use sandbags.
We must stress, however, that the fire and rescue service will respond to any life-threatening situations quickly.

3 adults, 1 child and a dog stuck inside a property with the water waist high.
2 adults in vacinity of property stuck inside HGV in water.
RAF search and rescue rescued the 2 adults from the HGV, fire service water rescue teams rescued a total of 5 persons.
Appliance from Rothwell attended as well as RAF helicopter.

Flat fire persons reported. Ground floor flat well alight. 4 ba's and 2hr's were used. 2 occupants, 1 female and 1 male 22 rescued by Fire Service personnel. Both were taken to BRI by ambulance suffering smoke inhalation and the female occupant also suffered burns to her arm.
