The workshop department, which includes the Body Shop, has the responsibility for ensuring that the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Services diverse fleet of vehicles and equipment is maintained to a standard that meets the needs of a modern fire and rescue service.
The Workshop has the responsibility of operating an in house vehicle workshop, which provides maintenance for the wide range of vehicles and equipment, which is currently in use within the West Yorkshire Fire Service.
The department is actively involved in the design and build of innovative concept vehicles, to ensure that the current and future needs of West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service are provided for.
The work undertaken by the workshop staff encompasses all aspects of vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance as well as major mechanical, electrical and bodywork overhauls, fabrication work, refurbishments, modifications, accident repairs and vehicle design and build.
The workshops supports the operational needs of the service on a 24-hour basis providing emergency maintenance back up outside normal working hours.
