Fire Safety Training

Fire safety training is essential for the West Yorkshire Fire Authority. Since the Authority has a statutory duty to provide guidance and assistance on fire safety matters to both the public and commercial sectors, staff that are competent and have the underpinning knowledge to offer this must be suitably trained.

The Authority employs a number of staff in various functions within the Fire Safety Department. All have passed the initial internal training courses before graduating to more complex and specialised training. Initial training is provided by members of the Training Team who are qualified and experienced officers, able to educate candidates in the basics of fire safety before progressing to more advance solutions and risk assessments.

Fire safety training is further provided by the Fire Service College at Morton-in-Marsh Gloucestershire, a recognised centre of excellence, together with other venues across the country. Some staff study for degree courses in fire engineering or fire safety management whilst other specific fire safety qualifications are achieved by staff who demonstrates competence in the various areas of fire safety.
