The Communications team is responsible for the day to day running of the fire service communications equipment. This include the station end equipment which provides fire crews with turn out information for incidents and the Mobile Data Terminals (MDT) on front line appliances, which the crews use on a daily basis for risk critical information at incidents and providing status updates back to the Control system.
The team also provides maintenance for all the fire service telephone systems, Airwave Radio terminals, fire ground radio equipment, the retained alerter system, silent witness cameras, calibration of gas detectors, and many other items used within the fire service.
The team administrators deal with the day to day billing and accounts of the department, liaising with various telecommunication contractors and equipment suppliers, and quality controlling the invoicing for all the telephony and mobile contracts.
The Data Team focuses upon two distinct areas – systems developments and business intelligence reporting. They develop, support and configure various systems as well as carrying out detailed analysis and reporting of all the Authority’s data ensuring it is timely and accurate and readily available to those that need it. They provide the help and administration for various systems including incident reporting, the prevention database, SAP, addressing and mapping.
The I.T. team manage, install and develop information and technology to include network infrastructure, data storage, mail system, network security, user rights and access, mobile storage security, data backup, server/ PC/ network hardware and software. They ensure that the I.T. systems and hardware in use are well maintained, secure and fit for purpose.
